RT Completes First Close of the Physical AI Development Funding, accepting Strategic Investment from NSK
Another Step toward the Establishment of a Next-Generation AI Robotics Industry, its Manufacturing & Supply Chain in Japan
RT Corporation (RT; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yukiko Nakagawa), a developer of Japan produced humanoid and quadruped robots, has completed the first close of its funding round. RT has accepted a strategic business investment from NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Akitoshi Ichii), a global leader in bearings and motion control technologies. NSK joins the funding as the lead investor to accelerate the development of Physical AI and the industrialization of next-generation AI robotics. As a result, NSK now holds more than one-third of RT’s voting rights. On the same day, RT and NSK signed a business partnership agreement.
Overview of the Partnership
This partnership aims to fuse RT’s expertise in embedded AI, humanoid robots, and Robot Operating System (ROS) technologies with NSK’s advanced motion control capabilities to create a next-generation AI robotics industry and build a robust industrial foundation originating in Japan.
Background and Purpose of the Partnership
Since its founding in 2005, RT has grown its business under the philosophy of “Life with Robot®” and “Work with Robot®,” striving to create a society where humans and robots coexist and harmoniously collaborate. RT has focused on developing Physical AI through both software and hardware, particularly in manufacturing environments, where its humanoid robot “Foodly” has contributed to improved productivity and safety.
NSK, on the other hand, has supported global industries for over a century since producing Japan’s first bearing in 1916. As a world leader in bearings and motion control technologies, NSK continues to innovate across sectors such as automotive and precision machinery.
Through this strategic investment, RT will strengthen its collaboration with NSK’s high-precision motion control technologies and global network. The goal is to build an industrial ecosystem that supports the integrated development, mass production, deployment, and maintenance of domestically produced AI robots for manufacturing—beyond the research or proof-of-concept stage.
Japan’s manufacturing sector faces structural challenges such as labor shortages and challenges from emerging countries. Through this partnership, RT and NSK aim to integrate their knowledge in AI, hardware, and manufacturing to rebuild Japan’s industry and enhance global competitiveness.
Purpose of Funding and Future Plans
Following this first close, RT plans to invite a wide range of partner companies for the second close and establish an integrated system from R&D to mass production and deployment. The goal is to build a Japan-origin Physical AI robotics industry and a solid manufacturing and supply chain.
Key initiatives under the partnership include:
Practical implementation of Japan produced quadruped robots
Joint development and collaboration for deploying humanoid robots in manufacturing industry
Strengthening R&D in AI, hardware, and software technologies
Exchange of technical and sales personnel to enhance proposal capabilities and market expansion
Additionally, RT will use the funding to reinforce:
Supply chain development to realize the above initiatives
Factory automation support using ROS and AI-based robots
Recruitment across development, production, and sales departments
Stay tuned for future developments.
